Un río de transición cerca de Bariloche, que baja del bosque a la estepa y termina entregando sus aguas al Nahuel Huapi. El Ninihuau es agua de paso entre dos mundos, con correderas claras arriba y un cauce más manso en el tramo bajo, entre lengas, coihues y matorral de estepa. Tiene trucha arcoíris, trucha marrón y trucha de arroyo.
Se pesca sobre todo con mosca: secas en las tablas, ninfas en los canales y streamers en los pozones y las juntas, con la desembocadura al Nahuel Huapi como punto interesante de los movimientos estacionales. El spinning liviano también rinde donde la modalidad está permitida. En términos generales, el arranque de la temporada y el otoño son sus momentos fuertes, con las aguas más limpias. Un río de carácter cambiante, que en pocos kilómetros pasa del bosque a la meseta y regala variedad al que lo recorre con paciencia.
