A large border lake in southern Chubut, known as Vintter on the Argentine side and Palena on the Chilean, surrounded by Andean forest and holding brown and rainbow trout. Wide waters and wind in a remote cordillera setting.
Season from November to April with the Patagonian permit. You fish with trolling and fly, from a boat and from shore, for good-sized fish. Its remoteness keeps it little visited; go self-sufficient and prepared for mountain weather.

For trophy specimens (5-10+ kg at the Strobel): step up the power—medium/medium-heavy spinning with 15-20 lb braid and a robust fluoro leader, or a 7/8 fly outfit—because these are fish with strength and runs far superior to the average trout.
